Guidelines for Trading...

TradeAway is made up of creative people like you who are waiting for creative offers. You can barter for about anything if you try hard enough! Just ASK and you may be surprised!

When you are trading, listing items, and making offers, please remember these important tips when using TradeAway (or any other medium) which does not allow for face-to-face transactions, and long distances are involved:

1. Always feel comfortable in the transaction or do not do it! Keep the old saying in mind "If it looks too good to be true, it usually is!"

2. Do not list goods or services unless you are the owner or controlling party of that asset.

3. Appraisals are only somebody's opinion of value and not worth very much if a willing buyer can't be found at that price. Many assets such as antiques, art, gems, jewelry, vintage cars, etc... can have high appraised retail values, but virtually no liquidity value compared to the appraisal or stated value.

4. Don't be afraid to ask for references when dealing with another party. Perhaps call somebody in the area that is can tell you if the person/business is reputable.

5. Use an intermediary or bank to escrow papers/titles or funds on large transactions to make sure a closing consummates to your satisfaction.

6. If you don't know what something is worth, there are many places in your phone book or the Internet that can help you arrive at a value. Also, look at other auction sites on the Internet to see what things are selling for. Call around and be informed.

7. When listing an item, be fair and honest in your evaluation. Many collectors are very particular about nicks, scratches or tears in a book, for example. In other words, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you!"

8. Be realistic and do not ask for the impossible. Put a value on your product or service that is realistic and can be verified.
